You’re spending 10, maybe 15 minutes every morning trying to get your brows to match. Filling them in. Fixing the shape. Hoping they don’t smudge by noon.
Microblading changes that. It’s a semi-permanent technique that creates hair-like strokes in your brows, filling in sparse areas and giving you a fuller, more defined shape that lasts 1 to 3 years. You wake up with brows that are already done.
No pencils. No powders. No daily guesswork.
The results look natural because the technique mimics real hair. Whether you’ve over-plucked for years, have naturally thin brows, or just want more definition without the daily effort, microblading gives you consistent, polished brows that don’t wash off. You get your mornings back, and you stop second-guessing your face in every mirror you pass.
Wake Skincare is led by Jacqueline Grace, a licensed esthetician who’s been named Best Esthetician in Wake County three years running. She’s also earned first place in the Pigmentation Artist of the Year category at The Skin Games, an international aesthetics competition.
She trained under one of Raleigh’s top permanent makeup artists and specializes in a light, airy powder brow technique that creates natural-looking results. Her work isn’t about making your brows look tattooed. It’s about making them look like yours, just better.
We’ve been serving clients across Wake County since 2020, offering personalized consultations and treatments that combine medical-grade solutions with a holistic approach. If you’re in Smithfield, Clayton, Garner, or anywhere in the surrounding area, you’re close enough to get this done right.
Every microblading service at Wake Skincare starts with a free consultation. You’ll sit down with Jacqueline to talk through what you want, what’s realistic for your face and skin type, and what the process looks like from start to finish.
During the appointment, a topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort. Then, using a specialized hand tool, fine strokes are created in the brow area to deposit pigment just below the skin’s surface. These strokes mimic natural hair and are placed strategically to enhance your existing brow shape or rebuild areas that are sparse.
The process takes about two hours. There’s minimal pain and zero downtime. Your brows will look darker initially, then lighten as they heal over the next few weeks. A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled 6 to 8 weeks later to perfect the shape and fill in any areas that didn’t retain pigment as expected. After that, you’re set for the next 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type and lifestyle.

We offer several permanent eyebrow options depending on what look you’re going for. Traditional microblading creates individual hair-like strokes for a soft, natural finish. Powder brows use a shading technique that gives you a filled-in, makeup-like look without the daily application. Nano brows combine precision and subtlety for ultra-fine detail.
All techniques are customized during your consultation. Jacqueline will assess your skin type, brow goals, and lifestyle to recommend the best approach. If you have oily skin, for example, powder brows might hold better than traditional microblading. If you want the most natural look possible, hair strokes are the way to go.
Smithfield and the surrounding Wake County area have seen growing demand for semi-permanent makeup services, especially among working professionals who want to streamline their routines without sacrificing their appearance. Whether you’re commuting to Raleigh, managing a busy household, or just tired of the daily brow routine, this is a practical solution that actually works.
Most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort, not pain. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure, which significantly reduces any sensitivity. You might feel light pressure or a scratching sensation, but it’s not the sharp pain people often imagine when they hear “tattooing.”
There’s no downtime. You can go back to work, run errands, or go about your day immediately after your appointment. Your brows will look darker and more defined for the first week, then they’ll lighten as the pigment settles and the skin heals.
Avoid getting them wet for the first 7 to 10 days. No swimming, no heavy sweating, no long showers where water is running directly over your face. You’ll also avoid makeup on the brow area during the healing phase. After that, they’re low-maintenance and you can treat them like normal brows.
Microblading typically lasts 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow aftercare instructions. Oily skin tends to break down pigment faster, so results may fade closer to the 1-year mark. Drier skin types often see results last longer.
A touch-up appointment is scheduled 6 to 8 weeks after your initial session. This is when any areas that didn’t retain pigment are filled in and the shape is perfected. After that, most clients come back for a refresh every 12 to 18 months to keep their brows looking sharp.
The beauty of microblading is that it’s semi-permanent, not permanent. Your face changes over time, and so do trends. This gives you the flexibility to adjust your brow shape or let them fade naturally if you decide you want something different down the road.
It’s normal for your brows to look darker and more intense immediately after the procedure. They’ll also feel slightly tender, similar to a mild sunburn. Within a few days, you’ll notice some flaking or scabbing as the skin heals. Don’t pick at it. Let it fall off naturally.
By week two, the color will have lightened significantly—sometimes to the point where you think it’s gone. That’s normal. The pigment is still settling beneath the skin, and the true color will emerge over the next few weeks.
If you experience severe pain, excessive oozing, redness that spreads, or any signs of infection, reach out immediately. But in most cases, the healing process is straightforward. Follow the aftercare instructions you’re given, keep the area clean and dry, and avoid touching your brows unnecessarily. Your follow-up appointment will address any concerns and perfect the final result.
Microblading uses a hand tool to create fine, hair-like strokes that mimic natural brow hairs. It’s ideal if you want a soft, natural look and have normal to dry skin. The strokes are placed individually to fill in gaps and create definition.
Powder brows use a shading technique that gives you a filled-in, makeup-like finish. Think of it as a soft, powdered look that’s more defined than microblading but still natural. This technique works better for oily skin because it holds pigment more consistently.
Nano brows are similar to microblading but use an even finer tool for ultra-precise strokes. It’s a newer technique that offers more control and can create incredibly realistic results, especially for clients with very sparse brows or those who want maximum detail.
During your consultation, Jacqueline will recommend the best technique based on your skin type, brow goals, and the look you’re going for. Sometimes a combination approach works best, blending hair strokes with light shading for a custom result.
Men absolutely get microblading. It’s not as common, but it’s becoming more popular, especially among men who have scars in the brow area, naturally sparse brows, or asymmetry they want to correct.
The technique is the same, but the approach is different. For men, the goal is usually to create a fuller, more masculine brow shape without making it look obvious or overdone. The strokes are placed to enhance what’s already there, not to create a dramatic change.
If you’re a man considering microblading, the consultation is the time to talk through what you want and what will look natural on your face. The process is discreet, the results are subtle, and no one will know you had it done unless you tell them. You’ll just look more put-together.
Look for someone with formal training, a strong portfolio, and verifiable credentials. Microblading is a skill that requires precision, an understanding of facial anatomy, and an eye for symmetry. It’s not something you want done by someone who took a weekend course.
Ask to see before-and-after photos of real clients. Look for natural-looking results, not overly bold or blocky brows. Check reviews and ask about their process, including how they handle consultations, numbing, aftercare, and touch-ups.
At Wake Skincare, Jacqueline is licensed, award-winning, and trained by one of Raleigh’s top permanent makeup artists. She’s also competed internationally and placed first in her category. That level of experience matters. About 50% of the work we do is correcting bad microblading done elsewhere, so choosing the right artist the first time saves you time, money, and frustration.
