Lumecca Pre-Treatment Instructions

  1. Avoid Tanning: Refrain from tanning, including the use of self-tanners, for 6 weeks before your treatment.
  2. Discontinue Retinol: Stop using retinol products, tretinoin, or exfoliants on the treatment area for one week. Avoid Accutane (isotretinoin) for 6 months prior.
  3. Inform About Hyperpigmentation: Let your skin practitioner know if you have a history of hyperpigmentation.
  4. Stop Photosensitizing Medications: Discontinue medications like doxycycline and minocycline three days before the treatment.
  5. Prepare for Downtime: Expect 2-3 days of social downtime for redness, swelling, and sloughing of sunspots to subside.
  6. Avoid Irritant Topicals: Stop using retinol, benzoyl peroxide, AHAs, and BHAs for 4 days before the treatment.
  7. Shave if Necessary: If applicable, arrive clean-shaven in the areas to be treated, such as the face and neck.

Lumecca Post-Care Instructions

  1. Post-Treatment Sensations: You may feel a mild sunburn sensation, which usually subsides within a few hours. Skin redness is normal and can last a few days.
  2. Possible Swelling: Slight swelling may occur.
  3. Crusting or Blistering: While uncommon, crusting or blistering is not serious. Pigmented areas may flake after a few days.
  4. Use Cold Compresses: Apply cold compresses for the first 24 hours to reduce discomfort.
  5. Gentle Care: Your skin will be fragile for 2-3 days. Use gentle cleansers, avoid rubbing the skin, and steer clear of hot water.
  6. Avoid Certain Products: Do not use retinoids, tretinoins, alpha or beta hydroxy products, vitamin C products, scrubs, exfoliants, or chemical peels on the treated area for one week.
  7. Makeup Application: Makeup can be applied immediately if the skin is not broken. Mineral-based makeup is recommended.
  8. Sun Protection: Avoid sun exposure and use sunblock regularly.
  9. Avoid Heat and Friction: Refrain from excessive heat or friction on the treated area, including heavy exercise and saunas.
  10. Darkening of Spots: Sunspots and age spots will darken before they start to respond and resolve. This is a normal part of the process. Do not pick, scrub, or exfoliate these spots; allow them to shed naturally.
