SkinPen Precision Microneedling Aftercare

Caring for Your Regenerating Skin

Immediately after your SkinPen treatment, your skin will feel warm and tight and may appear pink or mildly red, similar to a sunburn. These sensations should subside within a few hours, but for some, it may take up to a week. You may use a cooling face mask to reduce redness, heat, and inflammation if needed.

Since microneedling creates tiny micro-wounds in your skin, it’s important to follow specific aftercare instructions rather than your regular skincare routine.

Do’s

  1. Wash Hands: Always wash your hands before touching the treated area to avoid infection.
  2. Use Provided Products: Apply the remaining HG lift provided by your practitioner immediately after treatment, and use the Rescue or Hydrating product the next day to calm and soothe your skin.
  3. Resume Skincare: After 24 hours, you can return to your normal skincare routine, but your skin may feel tight and extra thirsty.
  4. Avoid Heat: Stay away from saunas, steam rooms, and other sources of excessive heat, which can cause discomfort and irritation.
  5. Skip Exfoliants: Do not use exfoliating products until your skin is fully healed.
  6. Avoid Hair Removal: Refrain from waxing or other hair removal methods in the treated area until it is fully healed.
  7. Stay Out of the Sun: Avoid sun exposure on the day of treatment and for the following 24 hours. Use sunscreen with at least SPF 50 and keep out of direct sunlight to ensure long-term results.
  8. Clean Linens: Use a clean pillowcase and towels to reduce the risk of infection.
  9. Hydrate: Increase your water intake to at least 8 glasses per day to aid in the healing process.

Don’ts

  1. Avoid Touching: Do not touch your skin unnecessarily immediately after treatment to prevent infection.
  2. No Swimming: Avoid swimming or chlorinated water for 4-5 days post-treatment.
  3. Limit Exercise: Do not engage in heavy exercise sessions for 24-48 hours after treatment.
  4. Skip Certain Products: Do not use topical skincare products not designed for post-microneedling treatment for 24 hours.
  5. Avoid Active Ingredients: Refrain from using products with AHAs, BHAs, and retinoids for 48 hours.
  6. Don’t Pick Skin: Avoid picking or peeling loose skin that may begin to flake following treatment.
  7. No Shaving: Do not shave or use aftershave products on the treated area for 12-48 hours post-treatment.
  8. No Additional Treatments: Avoid any other clinical treatments for 1-4 weeks post-treatment. Consult with your practitioner for advice on combining treatments.
  9. Limit Exposure: Avoid contact with pets and polluted environments to reduce the risk of infection while your skin is healing.

Additional Tips

  1. Cleansing Your Skin: For the first 72 hours post-treatment, clean your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Always wash your hands before touching your face. Gently dry your skin with a clean towel and avoid using powered cleansing brushes for at least a week.

  2. Protecting Your Skin from the Sun: Immediately after treatment, use only chemical-free topical lotions. Avoid the sun if possible. If you must go outside, use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 25 or higher sunscreen and a sunhat.

  3. Maximizing Skin Regeneration: Microneedling stimulates collagen growth. Use products with collagen-stimulating peptides to enhance this process.

  4. Hydration and Specialized Serums: Use hydrating serums and accelerators to soothe and heal your skin. Products with hyaluronic acid can help restore your skin’s balance. Also, drink plenty of water to aid in the healing process.

  5. Avoiding Irritants and Makeup: Do not wear makeup for 24-72 hours post-treatment to allow your skin to breathe and recover. Avoid using makeup brushes, especially dirty ones, as they can cause irritation and infections.

  6. No Exfoliation: Do not use abrasive products like exfoliators and alcohol-based toners while your skin is healing. Focus on products that soothe and heal.
